AIG to give their corrupt businessmen bonuses

Wow.

After receiving BILLIONS from the government in one of the earlier socialist-bailouts, AIG decides that "legally" and "contractually," they are still obligated to dole out bonuses to the very people that got them in trouble in the first place.

It was fascinating to see the difference in how CNN and Fox News treated the story.

At 8:30am, T.J. Holmes (sidenote: WEAK anchor) opened up the story basically by saying, "AIG is giving out bonuses, even though the government gave them money. But it's okay, 'cause they kind of have to do it."

Of course, I'm paraphrasing, but I couldn't stomach CNN Sunday Morning. Holy God.

FoxNews was at the opposite side of the spectrum, of course. "Here's something to piss you off: AIG is giving out bonuses after the government had to bail its sorry ass out of trouble."

Again, paraphrasing. But you get the point.

I realized why I watch FoxNews and read CNN.com

I need someone who doesn't know me to comiserate with me. I.E. - FoxNews. I need to turn on the TV and not see a woman or black talk show host to a news program or anchor on the screen simply because it's "hip." I need to turn on the TV and hear, "You're not alone," when I stress about how much the government is going to rape me in taxes over my lifetime.

So, I watch FoxNews. With the exception of Glenn Beck, FoxNews is incredibly right-wing. They don't hide it, everyone knows that.

Glenn Beck is just 100% honest. He has "been there, done that," in his past. He is a drug addict turned sober conservative. He's intelligent, logical, and just seems like an all-around good guy. He's with it.

Who on CNN is like that?

I read CNN.com basically because it's well laid-out and easy to glance at the day's top stories. Granted, their verbiage pisses me off more often than not, but because I know someone who works behind the scenes at CNN, I understand that it's the nature of the business. There are right-wingers who work at CNN. And, there are moderates. Neither are heard 90% of the time. And it's too bad, because as soon as the world realizes what a phony our thief of a President is, CNN may have to tone down it's Obama-gasms.

I have but one question that needs to be asked in reference to AIG giving bonuses. Would AIG still be giving bonuses had the US Govt (our taxes) not bailed them out? If the answer is yes then I have no complaint in their doing what they are contractually obligated to do. If the answer is no...I am outraged and EXPECT my taxes to be better "watchdogged" than this.

Their hands are tied, and so are the executed drug smugglers. I foresee a crazy man who has lost a ton of money going into AIG with a machine gun and wiping the place out. I only hope that they have good trained security agents to protect their thieving asses.

Bruce - I believe that AIG said that they would have given out the bonuses, but from how I understand it, it's one of those things that was worked into the amount of what the government gave them. Even if they knew about the bonus stuff prior to being bailed out, I have major issue with the government paying someone's bonuses. I have an even bigger problem when those bonuses are going to people who got the company in the crappy position they're in today. I'm sure there are good employees there, but the few spoil it for the bunch.

Michael - good point. Yikes.

I am absolutely appalled that AIG is giving bonuses to their employees after receiving government bailout. That money is not theirs to do with it whatever they please. That money is from hard-working tax payers. I hope the Obama Administration takes ever last dime back from them and lets them fail now. I can't even begin to express how angry I am!

I feel that their "contractual obligation" and keeping "best and the brightest" strategy is poor and is a bad judgement.
After this step of giving huge bonuses, what happens to their business, the people who would come up and say proudly that
"yeah I want AIG insurance on my property". Thinking of business for people of just for the company...???

Two comments:
1. If AIG is contractually obligated to give the bonuses, the treasury should give them $1B less and make them cut these high-paid staff like other businesses
2. Weren't the auto industry contracts with labor units obligations in the same sense? But, the autoworkers were forced into givebacks.

If the Obama Administration allows taxpayer funds to pay $165 million in bonuses to financial managers who lost billions in risky credit default swaps, then they are as incompetent as AIG. This is unconscionable. This stupidity could sink the Obama Administration.

I couldn't give a shit less if AIG gives people bonuses. It's their prerogative, it's their company. If you don't like the way AIG does business, then don't do business with AIG, it's as simple as that. That's how capitalism and free market economics work. What we really ought to do is stop bailing people out and stop this stimulus bullshit. Let the losers fail so that the winners can rise to the top. Standing in the way of natural selection will only make things worse in the long run.
